Savannah, the largest city in Georgia, is renowned for the architectural splendours that have become the USP of the city. The city has become globally famous for some of the most exquisite buildings such as the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences, Central of Georgia Railway roundhouse complex and the first African Baptists Church.
Winters in Savannah are usually quite mild. Summers however are much more pleasant and are the best time to visit the city. Although famous monuments and architectural structures interest travellers the most, visitors are also attracted by the old world charm Savannah oozes. Being a coastal city, Savannah offers a picturesque site for beach lovers. Tybee Island which was earlier known as the Savannah Beach is the location of the famous Tybee Island Light Station. Savannah is also proximal to other popular tourist destinations including Beaulieu, Thunderbolt and Vernonburg.
For music lovers visiting the city, the Savannah Civic Center is a popular place. It is situated on Montgomery Street and hosts more than 900 events that are very popular among die hard music lovers.
A visit to Savannah is incomplete without taking a trip to the historic churches and synagogues that have become synonymous with Savannah. The Christ Church, one of the oldest churches in the US is frequently visited by tourists. Other popular historic sites of interest are Temple Mickve Israel, Cathedral of St John the Baptist and St John’s Church. There are also two historic forts, Fort Pulaski National Monument and Fort Jackson situated in the city.
